Korfball Summer Camp 2021

We’re pleased to announce the annual camp organised by the Norfolk Korfball Association will be held at Eaton Value, Norwich, Norfolk from 1st to 8th August 2021.

Previously at Avon Tyrrell in Hampshire, the 29th korfball summer camp runs from Sunday 1 to Sunday 8 August 2021 at the Scouts Eaton Vale Activity Centre on the outskirts of the city of Norwich in a beautiful setting, with woods, playing fields and river.

COVID We are all concerned that the camp will be safe for both children and helpers. Be assured that we will be following the most recent guidance and best practice as issued by the government, England Korfball and the Scouts who run the Centre.

WHO CAN GO? The camp is open to all young people aged 10 to 16 years. Younger children can also go providing they have a parent at the camp. Numbers are limited to 50, first-come-first-served, places secured on prompt payment of the deposit (see below).

WHO RUNS THE CAMP? The camp is organised under the auspices of the Norfolk Korfball Association and staffed by parents and experienced volunteers, with a ratio of at least one adult to eight children. There are qualified instructors for certain activities such as canoeing and archery. Karen Palfreyman is the safeguarding lead and there will be several first aiders within the adult group. Parents, youth leaders and general helpers are welcomed at the camp to help, supervise, organise and have lots of fun. The cost to helpers is £110 to cover food and accommodation.

WHAT’S ON? There are lots of activities on site including kayak canoeing, archery, rope challenge, orienteering, football, tennis, badminton, cricket, rounders, table tennis, volleyball and of course korfball. There will be excursions, trips out, competitions and non-korfball activities as well. There is a big ‘bash’ at the end of the week and the chance to beat the korfball team from the coaching course in the annual grudge game.

ACCOMMODATION AND WHAT TO BRING Accommodation is camping in the Centre’s
grounds with access to a toilet block and showers. Individuals should bring their own tent, sleeping bag, wash kit, towels, a torch and plenty of appropriate clothing. Food is provided and cooked at the camp. Please let us know of any special dietary requirements (by email) before the camp starts. Insect repellent and sun cream is good idea and you may like to bring extra sports equipment and games or musical instruments to play in the evenings.

COST The cost for the week is £267. This includes food, utensils, camping fees, facilities and activities mentioned above. There are a limited number of grants of up to £80 available. Please apply through your club who will process applications. For a great time £35 pocket money will cover extras and trips out.

TRAVEL Transport to and from Eaton Vale is not provided although travellers by train can be collected from Norwich station, by arrangement. Arrival between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday 1 August and departure by 12 noon on Sunday 8 August
